Softball Preview: Robinson Rockets vs. Shepherd Pirates
The Robinson Rockets will face off against the Shepherd Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Robinson is coming into the game hot, having won their last 24 games.
Robinson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They beat Sealy by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-1.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Shepherd made sure to put some runs up on the board against Rusk on Saturday. The Pirates blew past the Eagles 12-2. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.
Isabelle Hooper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Neveah Murphey and Skyleigh Lagow did most of the damage at the plate: Murphey went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Lagow went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Murphey has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adison Simpson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Shepherd has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-10 record this season.
