Football Recap: Lyford Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Lyford, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down the Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys 20-6 on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Fightin' Jerseys recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Ryan Gonzales looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 61 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024.

Gonzales was just one part of a punishing run game: Lyford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 237 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Lyford's record is now 4-1. As for Falfurrias, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Lyford and Raymondville will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Bearkats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Falfurrias, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rio Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Bobcats' defense has only allowed 11.8 points per game this season, so the Fightin' Jerseys' offense will have their work cut out for them.
