Softball Game Preview: Woodlawn Cardinals vs. Trico Pioneers

Woodlawn is 0-3 against Trico since May of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Cardinals will take on the Pioneers in a tournament on Wednesday. Woodlawn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Woodlawn is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Goreville.

Woodlawn saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Pryor, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Another was Hanley Lamacchia, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Trico came up short against Breese Central on Saturday, falling 15-6. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Molly Rathert was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Hayleigh Franklin was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Trico's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Woodlawn, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.

Woodlawn couldn't quite finish off Trico when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
