Basketball Recap: Mashayla Valentine's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Belmont over Waite

Belmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 35-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waite Indians.

Belmont's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mashayla Valentine, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine steals. Valentine is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Even though they lost, Belmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Belmont's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Waite, with the victory, they broke their 14-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-7.

Belmont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 41-6 loss against DePaul Cristo Rey on the 29th. As for Waite, they will welcome Lima Senior at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
