Baseball Recap: Marin Catholic Takes a Loss

Marin Catholic extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 10-10 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Novato Hornets. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Wildcats who fell 2-0 when the teams previously met back in April of 2024.

Marin Catholic got a good showing from Jack McGovern, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McGovern also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Wildcats are 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Marin Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Greco, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Greco's first of the season.

As for Novato, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On Novato's side, JP Harmon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Harmon has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dominic Scafani, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Gio Castaing, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

While Marin Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
