Basketball Game Preview: Lafayette Central Catholic Knights vs. Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles

Lafayette Central Catholic is 2-7 against Guerin Catholic since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights will host the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles at 8:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, Lafayette Central Catholic came up short against Lafayette Jefferson and fell 49-36. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Bronchos are ranked 38th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Charlie Seaburg, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Joey Metzger, who earned five points.

Meanwhile, Guerin Catholic had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Crusaders 60-23. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Guerin Catholic's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Lafayette Central Catholic might still be hurting after the 55-31 loss they got from Guerin Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Lafayette Central Catholic, Robert Sorensen (who went 6 of 12 en route to 21 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
