Football Recap: McKinley Takes a Loss

McKinley fell victim to Chaney and their airtight defense on Friday. They were dealt a 54-0 defeat at the hands of the Cowboys. The loss leaves the Red Dragons still looking for their first win of the season.

Joey Lehman threw for 71 yards on five of 13 attempts. Mason Burns was his top target, picking up 38 receiving yards. On the ground, Vince Broll rushed for 35 yards.

Asuante Mickel was his usual excellent self, rushing for 113 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also throwing for 48 yards and a pair of TDs for Chaney. Mickel's passing game has become a key predictor of the Cowboys' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Christian Mahone, who rushed for 82 yards and one score.

McKinley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Chaney, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record.

Looking ahead, McKinley will host Poland Seminary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 14.5 points per game this season, so the Red Dragons' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Chaney, they will head out to challenge Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
