Baseball Recap: South Charleston Wins Going Away Against Poca

South Charleston came out on top against Poca on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Black Eagles put the hurt on the Dots with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Black Eagles in their matchups with the Dots: they've now won three in a row.

Tanner Adkins made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. South Charleston is undefeated when Adkins posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Akers, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marcus Goad, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

South Charleston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poca only posted an OBP of .316.

South Charleston's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Poca, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Charleston will square off against Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Black Eagles are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Poca, they will take on Hannan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
