Basketball Recap: Mineral County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Sparks on Friday, Mineral County came back down to earth. The Mineral County Serpents'2024 ended with a 68-50 loss against the Hug Hawks on Saturday.

When it comes to explaining why Mineral County lost, don't look at Jaeden Majano. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Majano is becoming a predictor of Mineral County's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Robert Wilson was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Mineral County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Hug, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-8.

Mineral County will look to defend their home court on January 4th against Pyramid Lake at 4:30 p.m. Mineral County is facing Pyramid Lake at the right time seeing as Pyramid Lake is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hug, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wooster at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th. One thing working in Hug's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
