Softball Recap: Astoria's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Astoria extended their winning streak to eight on Friday, bumping their season record up to 18-4-1 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Helens Lions a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Fishermen's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Maddie Wilkin's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aryana Adams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

As for St. Helens, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-3. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On St. Helens' side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addy Ellis, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Astoria will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
