Softball Game Preview: Westmont Warriors vs. Ann Sobrato Bulldogs

Westmont hasn't had much luck against Ann Sobrato recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Warriors will take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Westmont will be strutting in after a win while Ann Sobrato will be coming in after a loss.

Westmont will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Los Altos on Tuesday. The Warriors blew past the Eagles 11-4. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Regan Steele spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rylin Yee and Quinn Corbett did most of the damage at the plate: Yee went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI, while Corbett went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Marina Li was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Westmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Ann Sobrato came up short against Willow Glen on Tuesday and fell 11-8. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost five in a row.

Graciella Marchan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Amato, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Ann Sobrato's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Westmont, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Westmont suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Ann Sobrato in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
