Baseball Recap: Gateway Charter Find Success

Gateway Charter won the last time they faced Cape Coral and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Gateway Charter Griffins walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Cape Coral Seahawks. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Griffins.

Brandon Lackwood made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Gateway Charter's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jack Anastasio and Christopher Marrero did most of the damage at the plate: Anastasio scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Marrero scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave Marrero a new career-high. Kaleb Santos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Gateway Charter's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Cape Coral, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gateway Charter will host Immokalee at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway Charter is facing Immokalee at the right time seeing as Immokalee is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cape Coral, they will be playing at home against South Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cape Coral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
