Baseball Game Preview: Willowbrook Warriors vs. Proviso East Pirates

Willowbrook is a perfect 10-0 against Proviso East since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Willowbrook has five straight victories, Proviso East has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Willowbrook proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Saint Ignatius College Prep 8-7.

Willowbrook got a great performance from Luke Ranieri as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Ranieri a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Jory Crocker was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Jesus Torres, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Willowbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Willowbrook hit Proviso East with a seven-run seventh inning , which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates came up short against the Warriors, falling 12-2.

Willowbrook pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Proviso East, their loss dropped their record down to 3-16.

Willowbrook took their win against Proviso East when the teams last played on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
