Basketball Preview: Morningside Academy Eagles vs. St. Edward's Pirates
The Morningside Academy Eagles will square off against the St. Edward's Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Morningside Academy's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so the Pirates' offense will have their work cut out for them.
Last Tuesday, Morningside Academy took a serious blow against the Tigers, falling 60-29. Morningside Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-16.
Morningside Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Giuliana Bonasera, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Emmilina Miller who scored nine points. Bonasera hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for 17 straight games. Another player making a difference was Arianna Wallace, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. Edward's waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past West Shore with points to spare, taking the game 56-37.
Morningside Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5. As for St. Edward's, they pushed their record up to 11-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Morningside Academy beat the Pirates 42-32 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Will Morningside Academy repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
