Softball Recap: Meridian Trojans vs. Bellingham Bayhawks
Meridian got themselves on the board against Bellingham on Thursday, but Bellingham never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Bellingham Bayhawks as they made off with a 19-0 win. Meridian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Katie Prengaman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Prengaman has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Prengaman was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Meridian got a massive performance out of Natalie Schultz, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five RBI and a run. Another player making a difference was Makayla Tolsma, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Bellingham, they haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Meridian will look to defend their home field on Friday against Sedro-Woolley at 4:00 p.m. Sedro-Woolley will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Meridian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bellingham, they will head out on the road to face off against Squalicum at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bellingham is facing Squalicum at the right time seeing as Squalicum is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
