Basketball Recap: Jacksonville Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Fightin' Indians were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 61-55 to Tyler HEAT. While losing is never fun, the Fightin' Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 610th, while Tyler HEAT are ranked 102nd).

Tyler HEAT's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eli Anderson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted ten or more assists the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Waker Hartman, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 17 points.

Jacksonville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-19 record this season. As for Tyler HEAT, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 30-2.

Jacksonville will take on Lufkin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lufkin will roll in looking for their 30th straight win, something Jacksonville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tyler HEAT, they will square off against East Texas Homeschool Sports at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Tyler HEAT's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
