Baseball Game Preview: Westbrook Blue Blazes vs. Kennebunk Rams

Westbrook is 1-6 against Kennebunk since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Blue Blazes will head out to challenge the Rams at 5:15 p.m. Westbrook will be strutting in after a victory while Kennebunk will be coming in after a defeat.

Westbrook took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Portland by a score of 5-2. The Blue Blazes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Wyatt Poitras spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Josh Bainter-Clark, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Owen Redding also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Kennebunk didn't have quite enough to beat Bonny Eagle on Tuesday and fell 7-5.

Joe DiGiovanni led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Jack Joyce was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Westbrook's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Kennebunk, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Westbrook suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Kennebunk when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Blue Blazes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
