Baseball Game Preview: Mullen Mustangs vs. Thomas Jefferson Spartans

The Mullen Mustangs will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Thomas Jefferson Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Mullen will be strutting in after a win while Thomas Jefferson will be coming in after a defeat.

Mullen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Chandler by a score of 13-9 on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jake Clark looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mullen is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Thomas Stewart, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Dalton Marsh was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Mullen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 18-8 to Summit. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly ten runs.

Shepard Schneider made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jesus Flores-Sanchez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Thomas Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mullen, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
