California state high school basketball playoff brackets

No. 5 Roosevelt, Archbishop Riordan grab Open Division top seeds for boys; No. 1 Ontario Christian, No. 8 Archbishop Mitty are top seeds on girls side.

The California Interscholastic Federation announced the brackets for the boys and girls state basketball playoffs Sunday. The finals will be held March 14-15 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

No. 5 Roosevelt (Eastvale) grabbed the top-seed in the boys Southern California Open Division regional after the Mustangs beat Notre Dame (SO) (Sherman Oaks) 74-67 in the Southern Section Open Division final on Saturday. The two-seed in the south is No. 15 St. Joseph (Santa Maria) with Notre Dame, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), Montgomery (San Diego) and defending Open Division champion Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) rounding out the SoCal field. 

In the north, Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) earned the top seed and a first-round bye as did two-seed De La Salle (Concord) and three-seed Folsom. Salesian College Preparatory (Richmond) and Modesto Christian (Modesto) round out the five-team field.

On the girls side, No. 1 Ontario Christian (Ontario) earned a top seed in the Southern California Open Division regional and looks for its first state title. The Knights beat reigning state champion Etiwanda 65-63 on Saturday for the Southern Section Open title. Etiwanda, the two-time reigning Open Division champion, earned the No. 2 seed as it looks for the unprecedented three-peat. Both Ontario Christian and Etiwanda earned a bye in the six-team SoCal regional. 

In Northern California, No. 8 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) in the top seed in the Northern California Open Division regional along with No. 19 Clovis West (Fresno), which is the two-seed. Each earned a first-round bye. Mitty has reached the Open Division finals in each of the past three seasons, falling to Sierra Canyon and twice to Etiwanda.

Defending girls champions include Etiwanda (Open), Bishop Montgomery (Torrance) (Division I), Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) (Division II), Caruthers (Division III), St. Bernard's (Eureka) (Division IV), Oakland (Division V), Weed (Division VI, NorCal only).
