Basketball Recap: Highland Tech Falls Despite Big Games from Cooper Mccraw and Elijah Sherrill

Highland Tech was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Burns Bulldogs at home by a 69-53 margin. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 390th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 183rd).

Highland Tech's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Sherrill, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 27 points and five rebounds, and Cooper McCraw, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 14 points and five blocks. Sherrill is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Erwing Sosa, who posted four points and five assists.

Highland Tech now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Burns, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Highland Tech will be taking part in a tournament against South Point at 6:00 p.m. on December 27th. Highland Tech is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season. As for Burns, they will take on Crest in a tournament on December 26th. One thing working in Burns' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
