Baseball Recap: Portola Comes Up Short

Portola extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-12 in the process. They lost 17-1 to the Quincy Trojans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 26, 2024, but that streak is no more.

As for Quincy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Quincy's part, Lancen Walke made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Walke was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Blake Sigle looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Thackeray, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Quincy is 5-1 when Thackeray posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Noah Wade was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portola will take on Williams at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Yellowjackets at the right time seeing as the Yellowjackets are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Quincy, they will challenge Maxwell at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
