Volleyball Recap: Encina Takes a Loss

Encina extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 9-16. They fell 3-1 to the Futures Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Sarah Cowley paced Encina's offense, picking up four kills. Cowley got some help from Nyla Pomtong and her ten assists. Diana Khalvati controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

As for Futures, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since September 26, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Futures' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nikka Vinokurov, who had 27 digs and three aces. Vinokurov is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Svetlana Blyshchyk, who had 17 kills and 17 digs.

Encina has already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Victory Christian on the 16th. As for Futures, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Sacramento Waldorf on the 16th.
