Basketball Recap: Illini West Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Illini West barely beat Illini Bluffs the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 54-34 margin over the Tigers on Friday. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Illini West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wesley Robertson, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 13 points and six rebounds. Robertson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Cash Jones was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Illini West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

The victory (which was Illini West's third in a row) raised their record to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points over those games. As for Illini Bluffs, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Illini West won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Macomb at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Illini Bluffs, they will take on West Prairie in a tournament on Thursday.
