Basketball Recap: Finn Reiser's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Collins over Highlands Ranch

Fort Collins was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlands Ranch Falcons.

Fort Collins lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Finn Reiser, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Marcel Herrera, who had ten points.

Even though they lost, Fort Collins was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matches.

George West III was the offensive standout of the game as he went 6-for-9 to rack up 15 points. He is becoming a predictor of Highlands Ranch's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is undefeated (and 5-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Zane El-Bassuni, who scored six points along with six boards and three blocks.

Fort Collins' defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Highlands Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.

Fort Collins and Highlands Ranch could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Fort Collins (ranked 199th) will meet Windsor (ranked 33rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Highlands Ranch will take on Rock Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 62 places (92 vs. 30).
