Baseball Recap: Miller School of Albemarle Wins High-Profile Contest Against Collegiate

Miller School of Albemarle faced Collegiate in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mavericks blew past the Cougars 11-4. Considering the Mavericks have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Drew Wade looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jackson Sneathern was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Will Tomlinson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Miller School of Albemarle is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Collegiate, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Miller School of Albemarle will host Carlisle at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Collegiate, they will venture away from home to face off against Cape Henry Collegiate at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Dolphins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
