Baseball Recap: Holcomb Triumphs

While Holcomb's victory against Lakin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Longhorns sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Broncs on Thursday. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Broncs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Ethan Zapata and Keegan Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Zapata tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Johnson struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Zapata went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, while Johnson got on base in all five of his plate appearances with six stolen bases and two runs. Those six stolen bases gave Johnson a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jairdan Shultz was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Davin Hernandez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Holcomb's record is now 18-5. As for Lakin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Holcomb beat the Broncs by a score of 10-2 later that day.
