The Eastern Greene Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to challenge the Orleans Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastern Greene is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Eminence hit Eastern Greene with a seven-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Thunderbirds took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eels. The Thunderbirds have struggled against the Eels recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Charley Paurazas put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ashlynn Bellman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Grace Deckard, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Saturday. Orleans lost 7-1 to New Albany. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, Orleans couldn't push the score so high this time.
Orleans saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Mahan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Maddy Spires also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Eastern Greene's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Orleans, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-6 record this season.
Both Eastern Greene and Orleans just can't seem to miss. The Thunderbirds have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Orleans struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eastern Greene couldn't quite get it done against Orleans in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as they fell 5-1. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
