Football Recap: Keith Niles and Scout Smith Pace Arkoma Defense

Arkoma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 52-27 to the Webbers Falls Warriors. The Mustangs lost against the Warriors in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-14 score last time.

Despite the loss, Arkoma still got an impressive performance from Scout Smith, who picked up 82 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 43 yards and one touchdown. Smith didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Keith Niles made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Arkoma didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Niles and Smith. Niles got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Arkoma's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Webbers Falls, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Arkoma will head out to challenge Copan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. As for Webbers Falls, they are taking a road trip to take on Gans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will be up against the Grizzlies' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
