Soccer Game Preview: Esperanza vs. Brea Olinda

Esperanza and Brea Olinda are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but likely not for long. The Esperanza Aztecs will take on the Brea Olinda Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Brea Olinda will have to contend with a Esperanza team hungry for a victory, something the squad hasn't seen since December 23. Esperanza took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Troy on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 535th, while the Warriors are ranked 212th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brea Olinda). They never let Crean Lutheran onto the board and left with a 5-0 win on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on five straight.

They hit Crean Lutheran with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Jonas Pearson (2), Christian Duran, Aaron Gordon, and Diego Reynoso.

Brea Olinda's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 11 goals over those three matches. As for Esperanza, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10-4.

Esperanza might still be hurting after the 4-1 defeat they got from Brea Olinda when the teams last played back in January. Can Esperanza avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
