Basketball Recap: Te'anaina Rivers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westwood over Heritage

Westwood and Heritage squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Westwood had to settle for second. They fell 50-37 to the Heritage Panthers. While losing is never fun, Westwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Heritage is ranked 118th).

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Te'Anaina Rivers, who posted 11 points and six steals. Westwood is 3-1 when Rivers posts five or more steals, but 8-11 otherwise. Shanell Sullivan was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Westwood has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Heritage, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Westwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heritage, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-33 defeat against Bayside on the 7th.
