Basketball Game Preview: Sage Ridge Scorpions vs. Pyramid Lake Lakers

Sage Ridge is 0-10 against Pyramid Lake since February of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Sage Ridge Scorpions will challenge the Pyramid Lake Lakers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sage Ridge is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Mineral County: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Sage Ridge blew Mineral County out of the water with a 63-10 final score. The Scorpions have beaten the Serpents the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Serpents has come to flipping the script.

Meanwhile, Pyramid Lake had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.3 points) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Saturday. They blew past the Muckers, posting a 72-19 victory. Given the Lakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Muckers are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pyramid Lake pushed their record up to 22-5 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.4 points over those games. As for Sage Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Sage Ridge took a serious blow against Pyramid Lake in their previous meeting last Saturday, falling 61-17. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pyramid Lake's Kaitlin Mandell, who went 8 of 10 en route to 22 points and five assists.
