Football Recap: Brooks Canady Leads Providence Christian's Defense on Friday

Providence Christian lost to Houston Academy back in November of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Eagles strolled past the Raiders with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Among those leading the charge was John Martin Byrd, who picked up 79 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 38 yards. Those 79 receiving yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Providence Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 289 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 211 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Providence Christian's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Brooks Canady was the leader with two. Providence Christian got some further help from Tyler Sharp: he picked up a sack and made ten total tackles.

Despite the loss, Houston Academy still got an impressive performance from Ty Morris, who rushed for 59 yards and a pair of scores.

Providence Christian's record now sits at 7-3. As for Houston Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 823 yards in their previous games. As for Houston Academy, they will take on Bayside Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' defense better be ready for this one: the Admirals have averaged an impressive 39.1 points per game this season.
