Soccer Game Preview: Leesville Road vs. Cardinal Gibbons

The Leesville Road Pride will square off against the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Leesville Road sitting on eight straight wins and Cardinal Gibbons on four.

Leesville Road's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They beat Broughton by a goal, winning 1-0. Give Leesville Road's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Maddie Beaver, who's now up to two this season.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons' game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over Topsail. Cardinal Gibbons' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four games.

Cardinal Gibbons' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six matchups. As for Leesville Road, their win bumped their record up to 10-3-2.

Leesville Road came out on top in a nail-biter against Cardinal Gibbons in their previous matchup on April 9th, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pride since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
