Softball Game Preview: Wellsville Eagles vs. Oskaloosa Bears

The Wellsville Eagles will face off against the Oskaloosa Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Wellsville needed a bit of extra time to put away Baldwin. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 3rd.

Graceyn Hedrick and Taylar Spring did most of the damage at the plate: Hedrick went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Spring went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those five hits gave Hedrick a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brinlee Hartman, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wellsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 8-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Oskaloosa waltzed into their contest last Monday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 11-1 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Wellsville and bumps their season record up to 9-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Oskaloosa, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
