Basketball Recap: Steward Skates Past Norfolk Collegiate with Ease

Steward won the last time they faced Norfolk Collegiate and things went their way on Friday too. The Steward Spartans breezed by the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks to the tune of 71-29. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 26 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steward to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lilly Thoman, who made all 6 shots she took to post 14 points along with seven assists and five steals. Thoman continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Martin, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Steward smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Norfolk Collegiate lost, don't look at Chloe Booth. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points. The game was Booth's third in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Sanaa Harris, who had seven points.

Steward pushed their record up to 15-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.3 points. As for Norfolk Collegiate, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.

Coming up, Steward will take on Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Steward has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they will challenge Norfolk Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
