Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for La Habra

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but La Habra ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They never let the Sonora Raiders get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Highlanders have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddison Payne tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alyssa Hernandez was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Crystal Alatorre, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

La Habra lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win was the fourth in a row for La Habra, bringing their record up to 14-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sonora, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. La Habra is set to challenge their familiar foe El Dorado at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Highlanders 2.8, the Golden Hawks 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Sonora will face off against rival Villa Park at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
