Football Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Tocoi Creek's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Tocoi Creek's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell 25-14 to the Ponte Vedra Sharks. While losing is never fun, the Toros can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Sharks are ranked 18th).

Although Tocoi Creek took the loss, they still got scores from Akaylah Hewett and Kierra Cooper.

Izzy Murray had a dynamite game for Ponte Vedra, throwing for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 31 yards and one touchdown. Those 31 rushing yards gave Murray a new career-high.

Tocoi Creek's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Ponte Vedra, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tocoi Creek will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Andrew Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on March 26th. Ponte Vedra also won't see the field for a while: their next contest is against St. Augustine at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th.
