Basketball Game Preview: Houston Mustangs vs. Southwind Jaguars

Houston has won 11 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Southwind has won 11 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Houston Mustangs will welcome the Southwind Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. Houston has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Last Friday, Houston strolled past Collierville with points to spare, taking the game 85-69. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Dragons are ranked 144th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Southwind took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 72-38 win over Cordova. The Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season.

Houston better focus on containing Ronald Towns and Kristopher Carrol as the pair were huge in Southwind's win. Towns went 7 for 11 on his way to 16 points and five assists, while Carrol went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Towns a new career-high in assists. Traveon Holt was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points.

Southwind has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Houston, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.

Houston and Southwind were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Houston came up empty-handed after a 49-48 loss.
