Basketball Game Preview: Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes vs. Academy at the Lakes Wildcats

The Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Academy at the Lakes Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic is headed into Wednesday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Keswick Christian on Tuesday.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Conor Whalen, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexavier Dorval-Ferris, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Academy at the Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 60-41 to Hernando.

Academy at the Lakes' defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic beat Academy at the Lakes 58-46 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
