Basketball Preview: Saint Andrew's Scots vs. Somerset Prep
Two dominant guards in Emma Smith and Riley Stoker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Saint Andrew's Scots will take on Somerset Prep at TBD on Friday. Saint Andrew's will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the are ranked 19th).
Saint Andrew's can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They put the hurt on Spanish River with a sharp 49-26 win. The victory was just what Saint Andrew's needed coming off of a 71-29 loss in their prior game.
Saint Andrew's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Smith, who scored 13 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ainsley Ramsburg, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Somerset Prep scored the most points they've had all season to find success two weeks ago. They really took it to Pembroke Pines Charter for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-20 win at home. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Somerset Prep had established a 45 point advantage.
Somerset Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Stoker out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Skylar Alexander, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Saint Andrew's record now sits at 11-8. As for Somerset Prep, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-7.
Saint Andrew's was dealt a bruising 68-30 defeat at the hands of the in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Saint Andrew's was down 39-11.
