Mercyhurst Prep beats Union City for their ninth straight win

The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past Union City 48-3 at home. Fans of Mercyhurst Prep have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.

Mercyhurst Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paul Johnson, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 130 yards and a touchdown on only 11 passes. Jeremy Ganska was another key contributor, rushing for 122 yards and a touchdown.

Mercyhurst Prep's win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Iroquois and 1-8 Slippery Rock (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Union City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Mercyhurst Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Union City will be playing in front of their home fans against Cambridge Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
