Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

Notre Dame won the last time they faced Elba and things went their way on Saturday too. The Fighting Irish came out on top against the Lancers by a score of 5-1.

Evan Fitzpatrick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Notre Dame saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adyn Horzempa, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Chase Antinore was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Notre Dame was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elba only posted a batting average of .160.

Notre Dame's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Elba, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Notre Dame is set to take on their familiar foe Oakfield-Alabama at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Irish 2.5, the Hornets 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Elba will square off against rival Byron-Bergen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
