Softball Recap: Francis Parker Lancers vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers
Francis Parker had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it five. They came up short against the Mission Bay Buccaneers, falling 7-1. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buccaneers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2017.
Francis Parker saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Urso, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
As for Mission Bay, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
On Mission Bay's side, Abby Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Nelson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Evie Horton was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Siobhan Ascherfield was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Francis Parker will take on Tri-City Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Mission Bay, they will venture away from home to face off against Crawford at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
