Softball Preview: Marsh Valley Eagles vs. North Fremont Huskies

The Marsh Valley Eagles will face off against the North Fremont Huskies at 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Marsh Valley is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Marsh Valley after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Bear Lake by a score of 10-9.

Lydia Howell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Mya Anderson was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lisa Peck, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI.

North Fremont not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st. Everything went their way against Salmon as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Savages: they've now won nine in a row.

Like Marsh Valley, North Fremont also got a great game from a two-way player: Peyton Lenz. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Lenz has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 games.

In other batting news, North Fremont got a massive performance out of Brynnli Schultz, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Schultz has posted over her last 12 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Catie Pickard, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

North Fremont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

North Fremont's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Marsh Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
