Baseball Recap: Spring Valley Takes a Loss

Spring Valley was the 5-1 winner over Cheyenne when they last played one another on Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Grizzlies fell 6-2 to the Desert Shields on Thursday.

Spring Valley got a good showing from Braeden Cushenberry, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Cushenberry has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Damon Kodesko made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Cushenberry, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Spring Valley now has a losing record of 12-13-1. As for Cheyenne, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 17-8.

Coming up, Spring Valley will venture away from home to challenge Green Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gators' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Grizzlies' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cheyenne, they will take on Sunrise Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Miners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.63 runs per game on average), something the Desert Shields will no doubt try to take advantage of.
