Basketball Recap: James Irwin Comes Up Short

James Irwin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were outmatched by the St. Mary's Pirates and fell 77-40. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-17.

James Irwin lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jonathan Kimble, who posted seven points and four blocks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in blocks.

Leading St. Mary's to victory were Michael Trechter and Jeremiah Starr. Trechter en route to 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Starr to rack up 18 points and four steals. The match was Starr's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Bret Stewart, who had ten points and four steals.

James Irwin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for St. Mary's, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, James Irwin will face off against Village at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Village knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully James Irwin likes a good challenge. St. Mary's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
