Basketball Preview: Lackey Chargers vs. Leonardtown Raiders
The Lackey Chargers will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Leonardtown Raiders at 6:30 p.m.
Last Friday, Lackey was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-39 to the Braves.
In what's become a running theme this season, Leonardtown gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 61-16 victory over Westlake. While fans of Leonardtown might be used to big wins, the 45-point margin marked the team's biggest victory yet this season.
Leonardtown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eva Weller out in front who scored six points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks. Gretchen Fleck was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lackey has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Leonardtown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Lackey was able to grind out a solid win over the Raiders in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 54-45. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Leonardtown's Catherine Kolwey, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
