Softball Game Preview: Sunset Apollos vs. Glencoe Tide

The Sunset Apollos will venture away from home to square off against the Glencoe Tide at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sunset barely beat Tigard the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Apollos never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Friday. The Apollos have beaten the Tigers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.

Emily Belisle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sunset let Keana Cooper and Claire Townsend run wild. Cooper went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Townsend went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Townsend a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shelby Townsend, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Glencoe made easy work of Westview on Friday and carried off a 17-2 win. That 15-run margin sets a new team best for the Tide this season.

Sunset's record is now 9-3. As for Glencoe, their record now sits at 10-1.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Sunset hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Glencoe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Sunset couldn't quite get it done against Glencoe when the teams last played back in April of 2025 as they fell 4-0. Can the Apollos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
