Basketball Recap: Gavin Cox Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Powell

Campbell County lost to Powell back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Campbell County Cougars snuck past the Powell Panthers with a 55-51 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Campbell County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Cox, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Nelson, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Campbell County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Campbell County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. As for Powell, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-9.

Campbell County is taking a road trip to take on Halls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Powell, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Powell Panthers challenge the Oak Ridge Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
