Softball Recap: East Chambers Extends Winning Streak to Five

East Chambers entered their tilt with La Marque on Saturday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the La Marque Cougars a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Buccaneers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Destiney Deyoung and Hailey Hjelle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Deyoung tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hjelle pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Deyoung posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. At bat, Deyoung scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Hjelle went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Emily Vratis was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Marley Morgan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

East Chambers kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.

East Chambers pushed their record up to 12-6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for La Marque, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Coming up, East Chambers will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Warren at 6:30 p.m. Warren has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.5 runs per game on average), something East Chambers will no doubt try to take advantage of. La Marque has already played their next contest (against Non Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
